The BCARTW Executive have agreed to sign up and transfer
the entire BCARTW web site to a paid server.
No more Ads, more Bandwidth,
and a more professional looking Web appearance
for our members, and the general public.
The free Geocities server has been adequate up to now,
to give the Society a web presence,
but as we grow, so should our web page.
Look forward to this change in August 2007
if all goes well with the conversion,
One day you see a change of address note
on the main home page on Geocities,
which will be the indication of this exciting change.

Stay tuned!!!
Doug Gent, Web Editor

TWPP Update
The TWPP Union Pension Trustees have provided the following update to BC members on the issue of the lockout and its impact on their pensions. At a meeting of the Board of Trustees on Thursday, the Union Trustees moved a motion to permit all days lost due the current dispute to be counted as fully pensionable days. Based on a provision in the TWPP by-laws, the motion would not have involved any additional contributions by Telus or the employee. But such a move requires the consent of the trustees. Going against the advice of the Pension Plan Actuary and Advisor, the company Trustees refused to support the motion.

The TWU Trustees are taking the issue to an arbitrator for resolution. It would be premature for members to consider purchasing these lost days, as Telus is suggesting in the material it is sending to members. The union is encouraging members to wait for an update before taking any action.

Under the new BCARTW Secretaries Direction
I have updated many pages.
Note- the New Dues structure, allows
a member to pay for 2,3 or more years in advance,
thus saving a few cheques and time as well.
We encourage all members to take advantage
of this new feature.
The Executive is working to make joining
and maintaining your membership
a pleasant experience!
Hope you enjoy them!
We encourage all members to fill in
the .pdf downloadable form
to request a BCARTW Pension Trustee.
This can then be mailed in with your
New Application Form, or when you Renew,
or as soon as possible.

As Web Editor I am taking Editorial privilege
and adding this note to the News board.
It was news I wanted to hear, and others that
were given the boot from Telus last couple years,
I am sure will love to read this.
All former Telus employees who took the ERIP
buyout couple years ago,
please call 1 877 982 9591
and talk to a rep from Computershare.com
As it turns out you MAY have Telus Non-Voting
T.NV share options sitting
in a trust with this online Share firm,
all they need is some info from you to sell
or transfer the shares if so desired.
as an example I have 3 options waiting for me.
all are 100 share blocks and have to be sold in 100's.
option 1, which is for $34.88, which is a bust for sure.
BUT the good news, is I have
Option 2-for $24.00 a share
and Option 3-for an even nicer sum of $16.15 a share
which comes due Dec 10, next month
They charge $25.00 admin fee, and 4 cents/share
to sell them, so with the non-voting share price at $27.50 today
it is now worth looking at.
today before taxes it works out to almost
$1500.00 for me,  a nice welcome surprise.
Believe me Telus will not be calling you to exercise this option!!!
Thanks to Maureen David for letting me know.
There is a time period when these options run out also,
so don't wait forever.
Hope this helps out one more like me!
PS- My Pension buyout is this thursday, Nov 25th
at the Terrace Hotel at 4pm
All those that remember me, would love to see you there
and enjoy a beer or 2 on me..

TWPP
2004 Report to Convention

2 Motions passed by Local 8 in Kamloops
BCARTW would like these Motions brought
to the floor in every Local:
1.Whereas there has not been an increase to the pensions paid to existing
Retirees for over 10 years:
Therefore be it resolved that the Pension Trustees report to the Retirees,
Convention, Locals of the TWU and to the BC Association of Retired
Telecommunication Workers by June of 2004 with a detailed report on the
feasibility of increasing the pensions of existing Retirees.

2. Whereas the BC Association of Retired Telecommunication Workers is an
advocacy group created to look after the rights of Retired
Telecommunication Workers in BC:
Therefore be it resolved that this Association be accorded Local status in
the TWU with all rights etc. as per the TWU Constitution.  This new Local
shall only be allowed voice and vote on matters pertaining to the
Telecommunication Workers Pension Plan.

On Thursday, November 12, 2003 the BCARTW President (Alf McGuire),
Vice President (Alec Telfer),  Secretary Treasurer (Don Bremner),
and a Director (Jack Sambrooke),
met with Union Pension Trustees,
Lee Riggs, Jim Christianson and Nancy Curley in Burnaby.
Rod Heibert was unable to attend because of a
previously scheduled press conference.
The Trustees listened to and documented the concerns
of our members and promised to get back to us after
they meet with the full Board of Trustees.
We also addressed the rumors that are circulating about our
       organization and assured the Trustees
that we expect to share in any AFFORDABLE
indexing that the fund can manage.
There appeared to be no opposition to our presentation
and we await what we hope will be a positive response.
There will be a further report when we hear back.

Please email the WebEditor

The BCARTW will Represent all Retired Workers
of the Telecommunication Workers Pension Plan,
to achieve the best for our Membership.
The TWU and the TWPP have been notified
of our Aims and Objectives.
We feel the Retired Member
deserves the same voice on the control
of the Pension Plan, as a working member.

Remember as an Associate/Life Membership
Member in Good Standing of the TWU,
you are allowed to attend any
TWU Local Meeting, and have a Voice.
With this Society we plan on
using the whole Retired Group as a voice.

Please Join, and Have Your Voice heard!
A Voice of Many is Stronger
Than a Voice of One.
THE UNION MAKES US STRONG!
