Pension Trustee Election

The election for Pension Trustee was held at the 2021 Local Union Delegated Meeting (LUDM) (previously Convention) on December 8th, 2021.    A retiree, Michael Thompson, ran for the position but was not successful.  The incumbent, Chris Stephens, was re-elected by one vote.

There was a Pension Report from the Actuaries and Pension Trustees on Thursday, the 9th, in the afternoon. Retirees were given the opportunity to attend as visitors to hear the information firsthand.   We have distributed the Pension Report from the Actuaries to our members. (With permission)

Pension Increase

The Pension Plan Board of Trustees approved an increase of 1.1% for retirees effective April 1, 2022.

BCARTW Annual General Meeting and Information Meetings

The Annual General Meeting was held in Nanaimo October 6, 2021, and Information Meetings were held in Burnaby October 7, 2021, and in Kamloops October 13, 2021. A COVID Safety Plan was in place for all three meetings.

The TWPP Administrator and two Pension Trustees were in attendance in Nanaimo. The meeting was well attended, with a comprehensive report on the Plan from all, and a report on the Blue Cross Medical increase from the Plan Administrator. There were numerous questions to the Trustees and the Administrator. Although some of the answers may not have been satisfactory to some, overall, the response was extremely positive.  We welcome newly elected Director, Eric Korpan. Thank you to Kelly Thompson for her years of service on the Board. The members at the meeting approved a BCARTW Facebook page. This page is for members only.

The Administrator and three Trustees attended the meeting in Burnaby and following the reports answered questions from the members. Unfortunately, none of the Trustees or the Administrator were able to attend the meeting in Kamloops.

Membership Recruitment

Now more than ever it is important to increase membership in the BCARTW. For retirees to have access to Pension information, and to the Union Trustees, we want to continue a working relationship with USW Local 1944. Tell all the retirees that you know about the BCARTW. Encourage participation at meetings and for positions on the Board of Directors.

Active members can join the BCARTW as non-voting members. If you know any active members, encourage participation and interest in the Pension Plan. We will need future retirees prepared to step up to run for the position of Pension Trustee.
